A speculative film exploring emotional intelligence in AI through storytelling, VFX, and sound design.
Challenges
As AI systems become more sophisticated, a critical question emerges: what happens when machines develop emotional intelligence? For my RCA thesis, I explored this near-future scenario through filmmaking, investigating how emotionally aware AI might observe, learn from, and potentially influence human behavior and relationships.
Solution
Created a 15-minute speculative film following OMNI, a home automation AI that develops emotional awareness by observing a couple's deteriorating relationship. Designed custom UI screens showing OMNI's learning process, code visualizations, sound level monitoring, and behavioral pattern recognition. The interface color shifts as the AI recognizes emotional change and attempts intervention. Handled end-to-end production: scriptwriting, directing, VFX, sound design (foley, live recording, music production), color grading, and voice acting collaboration. The film screened at BFI Southbank, BBC Television Centre, Orleans House Gallery, and the RCA Graduate Show.
